Actually, I think we had it right as humans for millennia when we were hunter/gatherers, nomads who's property only consisted of hunting and cooking tools. It was agriculture that ushered in the concept of private property and created resource inequality. When we were hunter/gatherers we recognized the importance of everyone holding themselves accountable for the tribe's survival. We were forced to work together, therefore enjoying spoils of community more intensely. Unfortunately, we're way too comfortable and jaded to regress back to that lifestyle unless we're prompted by catastrophe.
