Because in order to have a civilization there must be a form of slavery cultivating it. Slaves need to be kept confused and dumb enough to go with the program and keep up with their labors so the rulers can maneuver comfortably and enjoy lives of leisure. I think the solution is to denounce civilization and return to an egalitarian hunter/gatherer culture where no one can exploit the essential survival skills of others with such cunning and ease.
