because this way-of-life is a byproduct of agriculture, with its unintended consequence being hierarchical/class systems. We're too comfortable with food being a commodity. If we were more self-sufficient as individuals and communities in meeting our necessities (hunting/growing our own food, building and maintaining our own shelter), we wouldn't have to depend on so heavily and work for "the system".
