I agree that balance is key, and we've maybe sweked too far on the comfort side of the scale to the point where we can't recognize what truly motivates our behavior: our natural hereditary urges passed down from our hunter/gatherer forebears.
Granted, the Scientific, Industrial, and Digital Revolutions have given us some pretty lights and gadgets to look at, but as far as art goes--sharing our connection to and appreciation of life's beauty--that's something we've always participated in since before the Agricultural Revolution and might've had more leisure time partake as hunter/gatherers.
